Conferinţa ONU privind schimbările climatice, marcată de dispute
O propunere de ajutorare a ţărilor sărace, care suferă din cauza încălzirii globale, a provocat dispute la Conferinţa ONU privind schimbările climatice. Cei 200 de reprezentanţi reuniţi în capitala Qatarului, Doha, nu s-au putut înţelege ca statele bogate să compenseze pierderile suportate de ţările sărace.
După o noapte întreagă de discuţii, membrii delegaţiei Statelor Unite continuă să se opună cu înverşunare măsurii, deoarece, spun ei, costurile ar putea fi extrem de mari. Pe de altă parte, poziţia reprezentanţilor statelor europene nu este bine definită. Atât Statele Unite, Europa, cât şi alte ţări dezvoltate se confruntă cu o criză economică. Din această cauză, refuză să-şi respecte promisiunea făcută la Summitul de la Copenhaga, adică să ofere 100 de miliarde de dolari pe an, până în 2020, statelor sărace, pentru ca acestea să facă faţă încălzirii globale.
"Insulele noastre sunt deja inundate de sare şi riscă să dispară de pe faţa pământului. Securitatea noastră alimentară este ameninţată. Puţine lucruri putem face pentru a opri acest proces, care continuă să se agraveze şi să ameninţe viitorul nostru", a declarat reprezentantul Insulelor Marshall, Tony de Brum
De asemenea, reprezentanţii ţărilor sărace i-au acuzat pe cei din statele bogate că sunt rezervaţi în privinţa prelungirii Protocolului de la Kyoto, care obligă părţile semnatare să reducă emisiile de gaze. După retragerea Japoniei, Rusiei şi Canadei, susţinătorii de bază ai înţelegerii sunt Uniunea Europeană şi Australia.
Statele Unite nu au ratificat niciodată documentul. Protocolul de la Kyoto este un pas important spre un nou acord global privind reducerea emisiilor de gaze cu efect de seră, care va intra în vigoare în 2020.
