Creştinii ortodocşi de stil vechi îi cinstesc astăzi pe Sfinţii Arhangheli Mihail şi Gavriil. Este o zi specială pentru mai bine de 100 de mii de moldoveni, care îşi marchează onomastica. De asemenea, în peste 200 de localităţi este sărbătorit hramul.

Potrivit statisticilor, în Moldova aproape 73 000 de bărbaţi au prenumele Mihail, iar peste 6 300 - Mihai. De asemenea, pe mai bine de 3 700 de moldoveni îi cheamă Gabriel, pe aproximativ 1.000 - Gavril, iar 56 au prenumele Gavriil. De cealaltă parte, peste 13 100 de moldovence poartă numele Mihaela, iar aproximativ pe 6 800 le cheamă Gabriela.
