PRIMELE DOVEZI ale vieţii de pe Terra: A fost descoperită cea mai veche fosilă
Cea mai veche fosilă a fost descoperită în Groenlanda, iar în interiorul ei se află primele dovezi ale vieţii de pe Terra. Datată de acum 3,7 miliarde de ani, fosila conţine dovezi ale prezenţei stromatolitelor, care sunt cu 220 de milioane de ani mai vechi decât fosilele descoperite anterior, infromează mediafax.ro.
Până acum, cea mai veche dovadă a vieţii de pe Terra erau stromatolitele de acum 3,48 de miliarde de ani, descoperite în regiunea Pilbara din vestul Australiei.
Fosila a fost descoperită în cele mai vechi roci sedimentare din lume aflate în Centura de rocă verde Isua care se găseşte de-a lungul zonei îngheţate din Groenlanda.
"Semnificaţia stromatolitelor este reprezentată nu numai de faptul că furnizează dovezi clare ale vieţii antice, dar sunt şi reprezentări ale unor ecosisteme complexe", a declarat cercetătorul Allen Nutman de la Universitatea din Wollongong, Australia.
"Descoperirea indică faptul că acum 3,7 miliarde de ani viaţa microbiană era deja diversă. Diversitatea ne confirmă că viaţa pe Pământ a apărut în primele milioane de ani de la apariţia planetei, fapt ce dovedeşte vechimea codului genetic al vieţii", a adăugat el.
Rocile au fost studiate de-a lungul mai multor decenii, însă fosilele nu au putut fi observate din cauza stratului de zăpadă. Numan şi echipa sa au fost la faţa locului în momentul dezgheţului şi au putut observa formaţiunile. Acestea au fost desprinse de stratul de gheaţă şi duse în laboratorul din Australia pentru analize.
Pe suprafaţa lor au fost observate conuri de 1 sau 4 centimetri înălţime, cercetătorii afirmând că structura lor externă şi internă este identică cu cea a stromatolitelor antice şi moderne.
Pentru ca primele organisme să se transforme în stromatolite, Nutman şi echipa sa au afirmat că viaţa pe Terra ar fi început în etapa "Hadean" (prima etapă geologică a planetei), acum 4,65 e miliarde de ani.
