Vahid Halilhodzic a fost prezentat oficial în calitate de selecţioner al Japoniei. În vârstă de 62 de ani, antrenorul bosniac are drept obiectiv calificarea la Mondialul din 2018, însă susţine că nu va fi o tragedie dacă nu va ajunge la turneul final din Rusia.
"Obiectivul nostru principal este calificarea la Campionatul Mondial din 2018. Dacă nu vom ajunge la turneul final din Rusia, vom încerca să evoluăm la un nivel înalt şi să nu ne oprim aici", a spus proaspătul selecţioner.
Un alt obiectiv al noului selecţioner este clasarea Japoniei cât mai sus în topul FIFA. Totuşi, Vahid Halilhodzic susţine că nu provocările l-au făcut să accepte postul de antrenor principal al niponilor.
"Mai întâi de toate, eu admir mentalitatea echipei voastre, pentru că este similară cu cea a mea. Modalitatea de a munci la această naţională este exact aceeaşi pe care o aplic şi eu", a precizat acesta.
Presa din Japonia a scris că Vahid Halilhodzic va avea un salariu de 2,2 milioane de dolari anual, iar contractul său va expira după Mondialul din Rusia. Anterior, selecţionerul bosniac a antrenat naţionala Algeriei, iar vara trecută a calificat echipa africană pentru prima dată în faza optimilor la Cupa Mondială.
Halilhodzic va debuta pe banca Japoniei la sfârşitul acestei luni, atunci când niponii vor disputa două partide amicale. Pe 27 martie Japonia va întâlni Tunisia, iar patru zile mai târziu se va duela cu Uzbekistan.
