Poliţia din Irlanda de Nord a descoperit sâmbătă o bombă la bordul maşinii unui agent de poliţie din Belfast, despre care au spus că probabil a fost plantată de militanţii naţionalişti care intenţionau să-l ucidă pe poliţist dacă nu ar fi fost detectată la timp, scrie mediafax.ro.
În timp ce acordul de pace din 1998 care a pus capăt în mare parte la trei decenii de violenţă pe criterii etnice în Irlanda de Nord, ofiţerii de poliţie sunt vizaţi sporadic de mici facţiuni încă active în provincia britanică.
Obiectul suspect a fost detectat în partea de est a oraşului sâmbătă şi s-a constatat că era un dispozitiv exploziv improvizat viabil, după examinarea de către ofiţeri specializaţi în muniţie.
"Convingerea noastră este că această tentativă de crimă a fost efectuată de disidenţi republicani violenţi. Nu le pasă cine atacă, nu le pasă pe cine ucid. Ei sunt pur şi simplu anti-pace şi anti-democraţie", a declarat Sean Wright, un şef al Departamentului de Investigaţii al Serviciului de Poliţie din Irlanda de Nord, într-o declaraţie.
