Senatorul american John Kerry a devenit noul secretar de stat al SUA
Statele Unite au un nou şef al diplomaţiei. Senatul american a aprobat cu o majoritate covârşitoare candidatura lui John Kerry, pentru funcţia de secretar de stat. El va lua locul lui Hillary Clinton şi urmează să fie învestit în următoarele zile.
Senatorul american John Kerry a primit suficientă susţinere din partea colegilor săi, pentru a fi confirmat în funcţia de secretar de stat al SUA. Cu 94 de voturi "pentru" şi doar 3 "împotrivă", el devine astfel cel de-al 68-lea şef al diplomaţiei americane.
"Admirăm foarte mult munca pe care a făcut-o în trecut. Suntem încântaţi că el este următorul secretar de stat. Ce este mai bun, încă urmează pentru John Kerry",a spus senatorul democrat Chuck Schumer.
Considerat un membru cheie al echipei de securitate naţională a lui Barack Obama, Kerry a fost aprobat de Senatul Statelor Unite la cinci zile de la audierea sa de către Comisia pentru Relaţii Externe. Atunci, el a declarat că optează pentru o politică externă fără operaţiuni militare în lumea arabă, bazată pe asistenţă politică şi financiară la nivel internaţional.
John Kerry, în vârstă de 69 de ani, a fost propus de Barack Obama pentru funcţia de secretar de stat, în locul lui Hillary Clinton. Erou decorat al războiului din Vietnam, el a candidat la preşedinţia Statelor Unite împotriva lui George Bush în 2004, dar a fost învins. Din 2009, John Kerry a condus prestigioasa Comisie de Afaceri Externe din Senat.
