Statistică: Un număr record de jurnalişti au murit în 2012
Un număr record de 119 jurnalişti ucişi în timpul exercitării profesiunii lor de la începutul anului 2012. Acestea sunt datele Institutului Internaţional de Presă (IPI), transmite AFP, citat de Agerpres.ro.
Potrivit unui comunicat al IPI, acesta este cel mai ridicat bilanţ din 1997, când această instituţie a început să ţină sistematic aceste statistici.
În 2011, 102 jurnalişti şi-au pierdut viaţa în exercitarea activităţii lor profesionale. Cel mai sângeros bilanţ data din 2009 (110 jurnalişti morţi).
Siria este ţara cea mai riscantă, cu 36 de decese înregistrate.
Totodată, 16 jurnalişti au murit în Somalia în urma unor atacuri ţintite. Niciun oficial nu a fost anchetat de justiţie, ceea ce "perpetuează o cultură a impunităţii care încurajează noi atacuri".
Mexic, Pakistan şi Filipine rămân de asemenea ţări extrem de periculoase, potrivit IPI.
Bilanţul îi include pe jurnaliştii decedaţi din cauza activităţii lor sau în timpul unei misiuni de presă, ceea ce înseamnă că accidentele de pe şosele sunt, spre exemplu, incluse în această categorie.
Cu toate acestea, marea majoritate a jurnaliştilor înregistraţi şi-au pierdut viaţa în urma unor atacuri ţintite.
