Un schelet de mamut siberian a fost vândut la licitaţie cu o sumă impunătoare
Un schelet aproape complet de mamut lânos, supranumit Monty, a cărui specie a dispărut în urmă cu 10.000 de ani, a fost vândut cu 239.000 de euro la o licitaţie organizată miercuri în Marea Britanie, scrie mediafax.ro.
Scheletul are o înălţime de 5 metri şi o lungime de 3,5 metri. Noul proprietar al mamutului este un colecţionar privat britanic. Licitaţia a fost organizată de casa Summers Place Auctions şi a avut loc în oraşul Billingshurst din sudul Angliei.
"În timpul vieţii sale, animalul era acoperit cu blană, o blană alcătuită din fire de păr lung la exterior care acopereau un strat de păr scurt. Chiar dacă avea o talie similară cu aceea a unui elefant actual, avea urechi mai mici şi o coadă mai scurtă, care îi permiteau să minimalizeze riscul de îngheţ şi pierderile de căldură, iar aceste detalii îl făceau să fie bine adaptat la era glaciară", au precizat organizatorii licitaţiei.
Scheletul, reasamblat pentru acea licitaţie, conţine 150 de oase şi este aproape complet (90%). Oasele lipsă au fost înlocuite cu replici artificiale ale lor.
